summary: Tibetan pigs grow in the agricultural and semi-agricultural regions
of Qinghai-Tibet plateau. It is a pig species living in the highest region in
the world, which can adapt to adverse and cold circumstances under grazing condition
at a very high altitude. The characteristics of this king of pig are as follows:
small in size, good in meat quality, thin-skin, light in fatness, rich in nutrition
and delicious. Tibetan pigs grow mainly under grazing condition, belonging to
highland grazing pigs. They have a well-developed sense of sight, narrow body,
and strong arms and legs with long and thick hair. There are presently about
30,000 Tibetan pigs in Tibet. They are mainly distributed in Lingzhi, Chamdo and
three eastern counties of Naqu prefectures. Among which Lingzhi is the place where
more Tibetan pigs live in, the number reaches around 10,000, in Cuogao township
alone, there are more than 3,000 Tibetan pigs. The "Basong Tibetan
Pig Development Base" has already set up there. The local government
has devoted much attention to the protection and development of Tibetan pig, they
have already done a lot in establishing a breeding factory in order to increase
breeding in number and produce a more improved variety of Tibetan pig. Scale
of construction: 1). With Cuogao twoship of Guongbujiangda as the base,
a Tibetan pig breeding base is intended to be set up in Lingzhi to breed 10,000
heads of pigs. Meanwhile, a big feed-processing plant is to be built so as to
form a network consisting of development, scientific research institution and
epidemic prevention and ill treatment facilities. 2). To set up a Tibetan
pig breeding base in Zhongyi township of Jiali county will intend to breed 5,000
pigs. Related scientific institution, epidemic prevention and feed-processing
plant will also be put under construction. 3). The above two breeding bases
in Cuogao and Zhongyi will be served as the basis for further expansion and protection
of Tibetan pigs in the following prefectures such as Lingzhi, Changdu, Naqu and
Shannan etc. Budgetary estimate of investment: The investment will
be 783,100 USD. Preliminary preparation of project: The feasibility
report has been made. Anticipated benefit: In two years' time, the
