In the past
forty plus years, science and technology in Tibet have been
developed with huge achievement. The region inherited traditional
technology and started and developed modern technology. The
achievement includes breeding, cultivation, planting, pharmaceutics,
energy, transportation, meteorology, new technology and new
products. Up to 1995, 2,386 scientific projects had been accomplished,
of which eleven won national prizes for advanced technology,
and 511 won prizes for technology development in the autonomous
region. Some scientific projects with plateau characteristics
have reached international advanced level.
At present, there 17 scientific researching instituted managed
by the autonomous region and 42 by the local government.
Up to 1994, there had been 813 professionals engaged in scientific
research in the region, among which 287 are Tibetans. With the
increase in the number of the researcher, the scientific and
technological power of the region shall be increased correspondingly.
